Evidence archaeologists eyes. According to the dictionary,

Evidence That the Noah’s Flood Happened Many historians, archaeologists and geologists have questioned whether the flood in the Bible really happened. Different opinions have arisen and arguments following those opinions. Both sides have come up with compelling evidence that supports their argument. Although both sides have compelling evidence that supports their argument, it can be argued that only one side is right. Evidence in support of an ancient global flood includes, fossils that are found in peculiar places, sediment and erosion records and the mention of the flood in the histories of other cultures. The first argument, fossils that are found in peculiar places, is one that catches many archaeologists eyes. According to the dictionary, fossils are: “Any remains, impression, or trace of a living thing of a former geological age, such as a skeleton, footprint, etc”. The Grand Canyon showed many signs of past life including fossils. Dr. Andrew A. Snelling, wrote a paper about what he and his team of archaeologists found at the Grand Canyon. In this paper, Dr. Andrew A. Snelling said that they found marine fossils in most of the rock layers of the Grand Canyon. For example, they found brachiopods (a clam-like organisms), in one of the top layers of the canyon. In the Himalayas, there were ammonites (coiled marine cephalopods), fossils in the limestone bed. The fossils found in the Grand Canyon and the Himalayas show that at one point in the world’s history, marine animals were carried to the top layers. There is only one explanation, a great amount of water swept across these layers, such as a flood. The second argument to support the idea of a global flood is sediment and erosion proof. Sediment evidence is abundant. In the lower layers of the Grand Canyon, the sediment is traced back to fifty mega sequences. The dictionary defines mega sequences as, “A stratigraphic sequence of rocks formed by sedimentation in a tectonically produced extensional basin, commonly at a constructive margin”. The sediment from the Grand Canyon couldn’t have just walked itself over to these mega sequences. Therefore, this suggests that a strong forced dragged these sediment pieces to the mega sequences across the world. Chalk beds in southern England can be traced westward across England and appear again in Northern Ireland. In the opposite direction, these same chalk beds can be traced across France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Southern Scandinavia, and other parts of Europe to Turkey, then to Israel and Egypt in the Middle East, and even as far as Kazakhstan. This can only lead many to believe that some force has moved the chalk across the world and to these places. A global flood is a strong enough force. Erosion evidence is a great part in the argument for a global flood. Erosion evidence is greatly shown. The section below the Tapeats Sandstone in the Grand Canyon has been quickly eroded and scraped off. This shows that erosion happened on a large scale. A flood would suffice. Buff-colored Coconino Sandstone is a very distinct type of rock. Dr. Andrew A. Snelling says in his paper, “This layer also contains physical features called cross beds. While the overall layer of sandstone is horizontal, these cross beds are clearly visible as sloped beds. These beds are remnants of the sand waves produced by the water currents that deposited the sand.”  Though this could mean nothing to some, it goes to show that at one point in the Grand Canyon’s history waves have passed through. The final argument, the mention of flood in the histories of other cultures supports a global flood. Ancient greek, Sumerian and Gilgamesh, are the cultures that are the most compelling to this argument.   One ancient greek culture was Ogyges. Ogyges was a mythical king from Attica. The culture was later named after him due to him being so famous. In many writings of Ogyges, it is said that the flood covered the whole earth. The flood was so devastating that Attica remained without kings. Another culture was Dardanus. Dardanus was a man who left to go colonize in the land North-East of the Aegean Sea. Like the culture Ogyges, the culture of Dardanus was named after the man due to him being the sole figure of the culture. When Dardanus’s deluge, or great flood, happend, the land was flooded. He and his family fled to a mountain range was then formed into the island of Samothrace. One more ancient greek culture was Deucalion. Deucalion’s story was a lot like the story of Noah’s Ark. The titan Prometheus advised his son, Deucalion, to build a chest. All men perished except for a few who escaped to high mountains. The mountains in Thessaly were parted and all the world beyond the Isthmus and Peloponnese was overwhelmed with water. Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha, after floating in the chest for nine days and nights, landed on Parnassus. These cultures all support the global flood. The Sumerian flood myth plainly states that the gods decided to not save mankind from an impending flood. When the hero, (his name is unknown), learned of this, the god of water, Enki, helped the hero escape the flood. Enki gave the hero instructions to build a giant ark. A terrible storm rocked the boat for seven days and seven nights. Then Utu, the Sun god, appeared and the hero creates an opening in the boat and sacrificed oxen and sheep. The Gilgamesh flood is an almost exact parallel of the flood in the Bible. The main character, Utnapishtim, traveled to go see his friend. The gods were not pleased with mankind and decide to destroy the earth. A god took pity on Utnapishtim and gave him instructions to build a big boat. Utnapishtim, his family and the seeds of all living things, got on the boat. When the rain stopped, Utnapishtim sent three birds at different times. When the last doesn’t come back, Utnapishtim found land. When he got to the land, the gods showed a rainbow in the sky, as a promise to never do that again. This myth is strikingly similar in many ways including how the God of the Bible also showed a rainbow in the sky as a promise. Lots of people have come up with compelling arguments. Evidence has arisen. Evidence in support of an ancient global flood includes, fossils that are found in peculiar places, sediment and erosion records and the mention of the flood in the histories of other cultures. Though this might seem not very important to many, it is life changing.
